Can't stand generic anime. I can only stand the more serious and "lacks the annoying as hell silliness" ones. That aside: Big O, Cowboy Bepop, Deathnote.

And Gundam Wing back in the Toonami days was the shit!

Mostly what I see people naming are main stream shonen aimed for little ten year old children. Stuff like Dragon Ball is terrible. Battles are exaggerated and it takes a whole good five episodes for the fighters to get a scratch on their left thumb. And after all that, it turns out that they're not at their full power level and takes two more episodes to charge up fully before they take three more episodes to have a half assed fight, and then finally they fight seriously. Fireballs can level planets, but somehow not each other even though they were on it. Too much bad things to name so I'm going to cut it short.

I'm a nihongaku/otaku (you can say its sad, but my life is dedicated to anime), so I know what I'm talking about when I say Naruto, One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist, Digimon, Pokemon, Sakura, InuYasha, Yu-Gi-Oh, Bleach, and BeyBlades are bad. If you spend your time watching Saturday cartoons like these, you're never going to get to the good stuff.
Some of this is true, some isn't.
Sure Dragon Ball was so boring like:
"- I'm gonna charge of huge ball that will kill for 2 episodes, please do not interrupt me.
- Ok ^^ take your time"

All the anime you quoted were aim to make money so of course they are sometimes (some, most of the time boring...), but please don't put Naruto, FMA and Bleach in the same category as BeyBlades.
Also, remember that anime are most of the time worst than the manga (or whatever is the english name).
Anyway, to each his own.

BTW, correct if I'm wrong but isn't the term otaku used for those who like too much mangas (like in an awkward way) ?

It can mean that you like anything alot, for example people who spend alot of time on their computers can be pc otakus. Basically means geek. Though the origin of the word is quite disturbing

Spriggan
Monster
Patlabor
Blood the last vampire
GITS
Wonderful Days
Ninja scroll
Memories ("Stink Bomb" in particular)
Animatrix (the second renaissance, Program)
Macross the movie
Macross Zero
Captain Herlock
Yamato
Galaxy Express 999
Hokuto no Ken
Cityhunter
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure...

most of the 80's stuff tbh, original versions only...from what i've been told most of these got massacred in their respective translations/ports.

forgot to mention "Blame!" and its upcoming movie. the artwork is absurd.

Oh I love Bleach! I'm also starting to like Death Note. I'm not exactly an "anime fan," but I have watched my fair share, and I do enjoy them, just not really any preference over other shows/movies.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Ninja Scroll is definitely one of my favorites. Thanks, Sleeper, for reminding me.

most studio ghibli stuff is awsome. Castle in the sky was perhaps the best. Might be that it was the first i ever watched.... Kiki's delivery service was also incredibly funny (the cat!).

Also yes to:
X 1999
Cowboy bebop
Evangelion
Full metal Alchemist
.hack//signs -- really good plot progression
Gundam wing
Akira
Ghost in the shell - ever since that first movie... amazing.
outlaw star
That zoids set of episodes about the shield liger ->blade liger, not the newer ones
The 4 Samurai X OVA's. The anime that they made about it is just weak.

So Ghibli's stuff do count as Anime then? So is that mean we the oldies, are still cool? :P

Ah I remember Akira! I rather prefer the comic book one though, it's longer and you got to see what happen after the movie as well. The movie version was cut too short imo.

Oh kill me now, how could I forget: Karas. An absolutly beautiful anime; took the studio a while to complete due to the detail, but it is outstanding.

These are my favorites too (I have not seen Berserk though). I don't watch anime these days, but seen many series and OVAs over the years. This is a list of the ones I enjoyed the most.

Grave of the Fireflies is a real heart wrencher, seen it several times and i still have trouble with it...

agree that the manga version of AKIRA simply goes beyond the movie (which is awesome).

And for the Dragonball haters out there. although DBZ can be resumed to "scream, powerup, fireball, scream, bigger fireball" ad nauseum
The original Dragonball is simply comic and anime genius.

i cant believe no one has mentioned Dr. Slump yet either.

I lumped them in the same category as anime aimed for children because they all have a "no kill" rule. Also, they all lack depth and requires you to completely tune out common sense in order to enjoy them.

I am well aware of this. I read mangas as well as watch animes.

www.encyclopediadramatica.com is not a good place to find reliable information.

The Akihabara neighborhood of Tokyo is a popular gathering place for otaku. Here you can see actual ones and they don't look that weird. They look pretty normal. They look just like everyone else.

More like that there are so many opinions that some are drowned.

I happen to hate soap operas. That doesn't mean everyone should, nor that soap operas suck. I also happen to hate various things that are anime, and many American/Western cartoons.

Liked Megas XLR though. Freaking win ^.^;

No Killing in Naruto & Bleach? Hmm Try watching the uncut versions pls. Plenty of dead people there ^^. Really why people would like to see the english dubbed ones I don't know .

Anybody seen Urotsukioji? Maybe something for you Malice or Etta

Other fun include: Dead Leaves, Appleseed, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Macross, R.O.D., X, Puni Puni Poemy

Who said I watched English dub? I usually watch Japanese audio with English subtitles. Rarely, but sometime though, I watch raw to help fan sub. Bleach has no killing during the whole soul society part. People were only beaten down, then healed back up after the battle. Hollows don't count either because they're not really people, more like monsters. Even if there is killing, you don't see it happen. They only tell you that the person died after. Naruto does have some killings in it, but not too often. And when it does happen, they always exaggerate and make a big scene about it as if the act of killing someone is great taboo.

Hmm I can recall numerous people getting discared by hollows?
But that was like in the earlier episodes? Can't recall currently at 155 >.>

Gaara not being explicit at putting a sand coffin on somebody? Lol.
